Vince Way-Nee

Vince first started turning wood more than 30 years ago in Ottawa. He now works out of his home based workshop in Peterborough, Ontario. He uses a lathe and only a few tools, to create pieces which showcase the beauty of nature. He specializes in turning hollow vessels from a single piece of wood, often a burl or wood with interesting grain patterns. Burls are lumpy growths found on the side of a tree, containing an irregular grain pattern whose beauty is waiting to be exposed.

Vince is inspired by nature, and allows simple flowing lines to expose the beauty of the wood. Each piece is unique and is completed in several stages, sometimes with months of drying time between each stage. The varied colours of each piece are all natural, whether from exotic or domestic woods. Each piece is carefully sanded and finished with a natural, non toxic oil. They are mainly artistic works, but can be used to hold dried items if desired.
Vince’s work has been displayed in galleries throughout Ontario.
He is a founding member of the Kawartha Woodturners Guild,
and has instructed many fellow turners in the province.

When not woodturning, Vince enjoys travel, canoeing and camping, motorcycling, and spending time with his wife and two adult children.
